6th meeting of the SMARTA-NET PROJECT organized by ERMN – The European Rural Mobility Network

Access to public transport for residents of rural areas is one of the biggest problems facing rural development in Europe.

Detailed results of a survey conducted in rural areas in Romania, Spain, Latvia, Ireland and Germany on several thousand respondents are presented. The majority of respondents across the European Union pointed to access to public transport as the most important and urgent problem to be solved in the future. Directions for further activities were also indicated.

Prof. Dr. Mirjana Radovanović presented the project and took an active part in the discussion. The experiences of the countries where the research was conducted are very similar to the results of the research that were obtained in the rural areas of the Republic of Serbia. It was also pointed out that individual countries are often better connected to each other than rural areas are connected to each other. All participants indicated the need for decision-makers to consider the ways in which they use funds intended for rural development, and to increase investments in public transport, from the planning stage to implementation, with special emphasis on the need to actively include the opinions and needs of the people themselves in all stages. residents of rural areas.

Prof. Dr. Mirjana Radovanović attended the plenary presentation, and after that she chose, in accordance with the needs of the project, to attend the session “Differences between urban and rural mobility: research results” and took part in the discussion.
